Despite the recent layoffs, Riot Games is already working on a new game, and it’s not what you might be thinking.

After the rest of this announcement

Despite recent layoffs, more than 500, Riot Games decides to move forward. Certainly, Legends of Riot Forge and Runeterra will suffer, and League of Legends to a lesser extent, but the studio is already working on its next project, a project that was teased during the 10th anniversary of the MOBA, and which did not give anything new. for years.

A Gansin Impact-style RPG?

In 2019, during LoL’s 10th anniversary, Riot Games announced future titles it plans to develop. Notable among them was Project F, a project that has not made any news since. A former Riot Games employee affected by the company’s recent layoffs revealed some very interesting details about a project he worked on at the studio for 3 years: An action-RPG, a variant of Gansin Impact set in the League of Legends universe.

His LinkedIn profile, after being modified, provides information on the above project.

I joined a team that was working on a third-person role-playing game prototype developed with Unreal Engine 5. Initially, the team decided to create a prototype that included everything from roguelike mechanics to daily quests. Other work focused on creating a model for the seasons, enemy factions, and crafting materials.

It specifically shows that many of the decisions made during this prototyping phase were adopted for pre-production. So the project was under development when he was fired. A statement that seems logical according to the words of Riot Games which certainly put the brakes on Riot Forge’s future projects, but it also confirms that it has not canceled any of the projects it has already started.

First information

Apart from confirming the development of the RPG, we also have some important information on its characteristics.

  • Multiplayer
  • Roguelike mechanics
  • Daily Quests
  • Seasonal model
  • enemy groups
  • Product material
  • Mobile version

There is also the question of monetization. If this is a Gansin Impact RPG, can we expect Gacha-style monetization? In Teamfight Tactics and League of Legends, there are cosmetics that can only be obtained by interacting with the random reward system. But one thing Riot Games has never done is allow players to improve their skills or the power of their characters through a monetization system. So let’s bet they don’t do that in this new title.

Riot Games is expected to provide more information on these projects later this year. Although the developer has confirmed that it will not announce new games on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of League of Legends, we can expect announcements during the release of the second season of Arcane scheduled for this year.
