At the 2013 BAFTA Awards, Hathaway won Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her work in Les Miserables. Unfortunately for the actor, however, virtually none of the conversation about him from the following day focused on his big win.

Unfortunately for Hathaway, however, the first step in his preparations went completely wrong. As Hathaway explained to Leno, she had a wardrobe malfunction as she tried to get ready.

“This dress was custom made for me. … It was so amazing. And the zipper broke! … My stylist went, ‘Oh God,’ and literally ran out of the room. I don’t know where she went. “She just ran away.”

After Hathaway had to cut out of her second dress of the night, her stylist came to the rescue with a third gown. Fortunately, Hathaway’s third outfit of the night looked amazing, but by then the damage was done.

Between everything Hathaway went through to get ready, she and her team were significantly behind schedule. As a result, by the time Hathaway arrived at the BAFTA Awards, she needed to walk down the red carpet to get inside the building in time.

As Hathaway explained to Leno, her late arrival forced her to run past interviewers and fans on the red carpet. As other stars signed autographs for fans, Hathaway was mobbed by them.

“I was so late that I had to run straight to the end of the carpet and missed all the interviews. And, worst of all, I missed the fans – the autographs. They’re out in the cold and the rain and It drizzled, and they shouted at me! … So, I panicked, my dress tore and I got the flu.”

“When it happened to me, I realized that this is not it. This was not the place. When what happened, happened, I realized that I had nothing to do with this line of energy at any level. I will no longer make art from this place. I will no longer make room for it, live in fear of it, or speak its language for any reason, with anyone, including myself.”

Most importantly for Hathaway, her way out of the backlash was to support women who found success.

“Hate seems to me the opposite of life; Nothing can grow properly in hard soil. I want to say: be happy for women. duration. Be especially happy for high-achieving women. Like, it’s not that hard.”
