“We have confidently implemented the double carry strategy that we are already well versed in”

Gumayusi and T1 are currently on a 6-game winning streak in the league, currently sitting 1st/2nd in the LCK Spring Split 2024 general standings. After the win against Dplus KIA, botlaner and head coach kkOma went to the press. Space to answer questions from the media.

You have reached the top with 6 consecutive wins. What do you think, what do you think?

kkOma: I think we are lucky to win today. It would be great if we can continue this winning streak, but above all I will do my best to maintain our performance.

Gumayusi: I’m still suffering from vacation syndrome (laughs), but I’m coming here telling myself that I need to focus and perform well today, so I feel good to win and be on top of the rankings.

How severe is your holiday syndrome?

Gumayusi: (Laughs) It’s not that serious. It usually lasts for three days, but there is a bit of nostalgia. I had a lot of fun during the break.

kkOma: Personally, I haven’t noticed the vacation syndrome at all behind the scenes. Gumaushi did very well.

You made a bold first pick Ash and made a huge difference in the first game. How did you study patch 14.2?

kkOma: Teams studied champions like Karma and Twisted Fate who were buffed, so we focused on training and evaluating their performance. Ultimately the game is about destroying the opponent’s nexus, so we tried to find good formations.

(For Gumayusi) You have to agree for the team to pick a double ADC bot duo. Did you talk to Kariya about it?

Gumayusi: I think duo bots are important, and there haven’t been many changes in the meta for botlane. We have confidently implemented the double carry strategy which we are already well versed in.

In yesterday’s match, each team took Sena and Lucian. Today, T1 has banned both and adopted a different strategy. Was it specifically to counter DK or do you think it’s better to play without him?

Gumayusi: We always prepare a suitable strategy for each team. We try to create a style of play that we are good at and opponents don’t like.

In the second game, you were way behind in terms of kills, but you overcame the situation thanks to macros. When did you feel the benefit?

Gumayusi: The laning phase didn’t go as well as we wanted, but I don’t think it was completely disastrous. I thought our lineup was solid and we liked it. So I was thinking that if we managed the mid and late game macros well, everything would be fine.

You have reached the summit for the first time this season. What do you think, what do you think?

kkOma: To be honest, first place weighs a little on me. I’m happy that the fans are happy to see us in the first place. But I have to stay alert, continue to prepare well, maintain a good performance and project a good image.

Do you think the rest of the first round matches will go off without a hitch?

kkOma: Today’s match was the first after the patch so I personally was a bit scared. As for the other matches, we can lose with a slight mistake, so I want to continue to prepare well and keep the winning streak going.

In the first game, the opponent chose a pike. It’s not a champion that comes out often. What did you think would happen to the boatlane?

Gumayusi: We found our boatlane to be mostly favorable, and the pike was not a particularly restrictive choice for us.

In the second match, you participated in a team fight despite numerous deaths and earned an ACE. The score was 0-7 and you were pushed around. Don’t you feel at a disadvantage?

Gumayusi: We were not too concerned about the total number of deaths. There is an expression that says “to die deliciously.” This is the case with many of the deaths we have suffered. Our Oriana and Aatrox flanks were doing well, so we didn’t pay too much attention to the death toll.

You must have played a lot of games in the modified Rift by now. Do you think you have adapted it completely?

Gumayusi: Seeing the rift before the change feels completely foreign to me now that we’ve had so much practice, I’ve completely embraced it.

One last word?

kkOma: Thanks to the fans who always support us. Thanks to the hardworking players, coaching staff and management who supported us.

Gumayusi: Only two matches left in the first round. Time passes very quickly. I’m going to finish the first round well.
