“You just need to get coaching”, draws community ire after this LoL dev responds to player’s complaint

After the rest of this announcement

At the start of Season 14 League of Legends, Riot Games made some changes to the rankings. The Emerald tier has shrunk, MMR has been adjusted, and LP profit/loss has been adjusted – changes that require little tweaking since the start of the year.

For many, playing in ranked mode is a must, and the goal is of course to reach the highest level (depending on one’s abilities). But it’s not uncommon to find yourself “stuck.” This is the case of this player, who then asked the community for advice on trying to reach a higher level. He was lucky to get a response from the developer, but he probably wasn’t expecting it.

A brutally honest community

On Reddit, a player complained about his ranking. In a publication entitled “How fair is this game?” And explains his situation; While he was ranked platinum last season, he now finds himself ranked silver, a situation that frustrates him, and which he doesn’t really understand.

At the start of the new season, my MMR went into a tailspin because of my teammates. As a support hand, I feel like I shouldn’t play much without a solid pair, but that’s what I did.

I was seeded gold 4, losing streak even though I was MVP in every loss. Now I’m assigned horrible people that I can’t handle or help. I went from Platinum last season to Silver 2 now. I feel like I’m in a hell I can’t get out of.

The community tried to help him, giving him some general advice such as focusing on himself, and not on what other people were doing, and that the reason why he wasn’t climbing could only be because of his “terrible colleagues”. not

An opinion shared by many who also stated that the game may not be fair if we consider only a few games, but it was fair in the long run. One player draws a parallel with poker, explaining that even if you have bad hands, a pro player, unlike an amateur, always wins over time. Finally, While the community isn’t fierce, they’re brutally honest and believe that if it’s not moving, it’s not good enough.

The discussion could have ended there until a Riot Games employee put in his two cents.

“You’re probably doing hundreds of things wrong.”

In my opinion, the community already explained the player position well. It is clear that if after dozens, even hundreds of games, he remains stuck, he cannot blame the whole world, and he must question himself a little. Ways of improvement exist, and this is what the naughty Fraxzen suggested. Not content to tell him that he made dozens of mistakes every game, he also advised him to get a coach. While this seems to come from a good feeling, the community doesn’t really appreciate it.

It can be helpful to get some coaching. If you don’t know what you’re doing wrong and you’re platinum, you’re probably doing hundreds of things wrong per game.

“Totally wrong. You’re literally saying it’s a matter of skill,” Or “I played 40 games with a 70% win rate and your crappy system didn’t even let me get out of gold, lol. Unless you go 25-0 to Elo Hell, it’s unwinnable.” May we read in response to his message.

Some are more virulent in their response “What an embarrassing statement! You’re too friendly to industry bigwigs, and you’re strapped for money, because why doesn’t Riot Games offer coaching classes themselves? Hurt coaching. Your answer is third-party satire at this point.”

Others still claim that Riot Games has ruined the ranked system this season, that it’s impossible to climb. Especially LP losses more than profits and new accounts destroy others’ mmr. One thing is for sure, phroxz0n did not expect such a heated response, and his response, for his part, was probably not malicious.
