The Monster Hunter Rise update adds a controversial feature

Hello everyone, it’s Dylan, your pop culture and gaming enthusiast editor. If you’re a fan of Monster Hunter Rise, you’ve probably heard about its latest update that introduced Enigma DRM, which unfortunately made the game incompatible with Steam decks. Capcom Studios is currently investigating the issue and has apologized for the inconvenience caused to players.

In this update, Enigma replaced Denuvo Anti-Tamper, another DRM solution that was present in the PC version of Monster Hunter Rise since its release in early 2022. Players also raised other concerns regarding the patch, which arrived a few months before the third anniversary. An acclaimed presentation of this game.

The PC version of the game was initially launched on Steam in January 2022 with Denuvo Anti-Tamper, a DRM solution widely used in the gaming world. This inclusion was not unprecedented, as the PC port of Monster Hunter World also launched with Denuvo, as did many other Capcom games in recent years.

However, things got complicated with the latest update, which replaced Denuvo with The Enigma Protector. This change makes the game incompatible with Steam Deck, as The Enigma Protector is designed for the Windows operating system, making it incompatible with Linux, the operating system used by Steam Deck.

Several players confirmed this incompatibility, reporting that the game would no longer work on Valve’s handheld consoles after the 16.0.2 update. Capcom quickly acknowledged the problem and apologized to players.

Some fans expressed their frustration with the situation on social media, pointing out that Capcom should have removed the DRM from the three-year-old game instead of replacing it with a more restrictive solution.

Fortunately, modder Fluffyquake reported that the transition to Enigma did not affect the game’s invalid mods and PAKs.

Update 16.0.2 also removed some downloadable support, and players reported the game not working on Steam decks after this update.

Despite this problem, Monster Hunter Rise is a game enjoyed by many players after its release in 2021. If you’re a fan of this action-RPG game, this latest update might have caused some inconvenience, but Capcom is aware of the problem and is working on it. Solve it as fast as possible. Stay tuned for more information.
