Saoirse Ronan reveals she was meant to be in a Barbie movie

We could have had an Irish Barbie in the Dreamhouse!

Saoirse Ronan has revealed that she was originally meant to make a cameo in 2023’s biggest movie.

According to the Carlow actress, Greta Gerwig wanted her to play a ‘Weird Barbie’ similar to Kate McKinnon’s role in the film.

But she admitted she wasn’t thrilled about the role chosen for her, and didn’t want to be a Barbieland outcast.

“I was definitely going to be a weird Barbie. I didn’t know how to take it.” “If I was with Kate McKinnon, that would be great,” she said in an interview with Variety.

When asked what the scene was like, Saoirse said: “I don’t even remember now, but it was weird. I think I’d be the weird girl who talked to herself and always had her pet dog with her and always talked to the dog and wouldn’t look at anyone.

Unfortunately it ultimately came down to scheduling conflicts and Saoirse would not have had the opportunity to appear in the Barbie movie due to other commitments.

The 29-year-old actress recently acted in the film Science the enemy opposite fellow Irish actor Paul Mescall and currently promoting his new film The Outrun which recently premiered at Sundance is already receiving rave reviews.
