Big change on WhatsApp: You have to pay to continue using the app without limits

Rumors of WhatsApp that will suddenly be paid for are being talked about. If this is still not the case for the moment, Android users will be disappointed to learn that they have just lost a certain privilege…

You might not know, but if you use Android, your WhatsApp data is part of the information stored on your Google Drive space. However, until now, WhatsApp data did not count against the 15 GB limit provided by Google for free. Precisely, this gave your WhatsApp account unlimited data space on Android. But soon it will be no more.

This, far from it, is not Meta’s decision, but Google’s choice to terminate this generous agreement. So what will change itself? It all depends on how you already use WhatsApp.

Do you particularly want to preserve your old conversation data? Do you share a lot of photos and videos on WhatsApp? Do you keep them? Do you use the app often? And do you usually store a lot of stuff on one drive? The more you answer “yes” to these questions, the faster you can exceed the 15 MB quota set by Google Drive.

What to do? At first glance, only one solution: pay for a Google Drive subscription. This will cost you €2.99 per month for 200 GB. A space that is already more beneficial and should allow you to store a lot of things. Well, it is in theory.

As JVTech points out, there are two other solutions available to you. The first, slightly more complicated, is to create another Google account linked to your WhatsApp account, with which you will have access to another 15 GB of free storage space. A method that is a bit of a cheat, but which can be effective

The second, more tedious, but quite simple in principle, is to sort your data better: sort through your conversations and get rid of downloaded photos and videos that you don’t need. In general, sorting your data is a healthy practice to adopt regularly.

Although it is wrong to say that WhatsApp is now paid on Android, you may understand that this new policy, depending on your usage of WhatsApp, you can remove your wallet.
