Trans actor Anjelica Ross has opened up about why she called out her co-star Emma Roberts following alleged transphobic comments on her set. American Horror Story: 1984.

Ross starred alongside Roberts in the ninth season of the series, which aired back in 2019. She also collaborated with him AHS Producer Ryan Murphy on the critically acclaimed NYC ballroom drama, put.

Ross alleged that Roberts deliberately mischaracterized her while they were working together. In a new interview, Ross addressed what it was like working while being subjected to transphobia.

“I’m more proud of it when I think about what I went through to get the job done,” she told BuzzFeed. “I had the protection of Hollywood and bad actors. And when I say bad actors, I’m not just talking about the acting. I tell people who are behaving badly and everyone knows they are behaving badly.

She explained that she received a number of DMs and text messages from others in the LGBTQ+ community in the industry who also had to deal with similar circumstances.

The actress added that she spoke to Roberts following her transphobic comments, saying: “‘You know what was going on. If you don’t want to talk about the overall issue of how you’re behaving, an apology won’t do anything for me. …You’re not sorry, you’re sorry that (the reaction) happened.’ “

Ross also said she doesn’t support the industry “treating black people differently” while simultaneously “trying to pretend for diversity and inclusion (they) want more white women at the table”.

“We’re not saying how those same white women with their privilege are so violent on set,” she said.

PinkNews has reached out to Emma Roberts’ rep for comment on the matter.

“Then he looks at me, he goes ‘don’t you mean the lady?’,” Ross alleged.

“I’m standing there looking at her body (on camera) trying to process (what) she just said.

“I’m like, ‘If I say something, it’s my problem,’ and I know this because there was someone who talked about what she was doing and they got consequences. Her No! They did.”

Roberts did not respond to PinkNews’ request for comment at the time.
