Alec Baldwin charged again for fatal shooting on set of “Rust.”

(CNN) –– A New Mexico grand jury indicted actor Alec Baldwin on charges related to a fatal shooting on the set of the movie “Rust” in 2021, Santa Fe County court documents show.

Baldwin is charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter. Court documents describe the first charge as “reckless use of a firearm” and the second as involuntary manslaughter without due care or caution, which is detailed as “an act committed with complete disregard or indifference to the safety of others.”

“We are looking forward to our court date,” Baldwin’s attorneys, Luke Nikas and Alex Spiro, told CNN in a statement Friday.

Baldwin’s defense attorneys have previously insisted their client is not guilty.

Cinematographer Helena Hutchins was killed and director Joel Souza was injured when Baldwin, holding a gun, fired a live shot during a scene rehearsal on the film’s set. In an earlier interview with CNN, Baldwin denied pulling the gun’s trigger.

The murder charges Baldwin faced were dropped last year, and prosecutors said in a statement at the time that they “cannot proceed under the current time constraints and with the facts and evidence presented by authorities in their current form.” “Because of the new facts.” “In the case.

A law enforcement source told CNN the decision to drop the charges in April of last year came after authorities learned the gun involved in the shooting may have been tampered with. However, prosecutors noted that the case could be refiled at a later date.

In October, prosecutors said “additional facts have come to light that we believe Mr. Baldwin is criminally responsible in the death of Halina Hutchins” and said a grand jury would have to decide whether to indict the actor again.

Gunsmith Hannah Gutierrez Reed also faces involuntary manslaughter charges in the case and is scheduled for trial in February.

CNN’s Elizabeth Wegmeister contributed to this story.
