Want to replay one of the best GTA ever made on a more current platform? A very ambitious project is being prepared and will be available before the release of Grand Theft Auto 6.
GTA 6 is almost ubiquitous in video game news, but we’ll have to be patient. We don’t know when Rockstar Games will communicate again, or when we’ll be able to get our hands on it. But the release is set for 2025 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Meanwhile, the compilation Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – Definitive Edition has been released on mobile, iOS and Android, and it turns out that the games are better in this version. Some of the issues raised by players are now history, and are available for free if you’re a Netflix subscriber.
A new makeover for GTA Vice City
All three GTAs released on PS2 – Grand Theft Auto 3, Vice City and San Andreas – are available on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC, but it’s disappointing. The remasters didn’t quite receive the care that fans had hoped for and this resulted in versions that were sometimes inferior to the originals. Then, modders will apply graphic improvements with better textures, especially for cars and NPCs, or the integration of very visible neon lights – taken from Vice City Stories – Ocean Drive on some buildings. But these are not the only differences.

GTA Vice City Next Edition will bring back all missions, car, character and pedestrian models, the original radio, as well as cutscenes from the Xbox version. Of course, the few changes brought by the Official Definitive Edition cannot be ruled out. And the icing on the cake, Revolution Team promises to stick even more closely to the design of the PS2 game. This will be available in 2024, but unfortunately, only on PC. Unless Take-Two Interactive puts in its two cents and orders the modders to shut everything down, which isn’t impossible… This was done before the remastered trilogy started, and everyone involved had to quit on the spot.
