A possible shooting has been reported at a Houston church and the suspect may have been killed, according to authorities
(CNN) — Authorities are responding to a report of a shooting at Pastor Joel Osteen’s Lakewood Church, the Houston Police Department (HPD) said in a statement. x post on sunday.
“HPD is responding to reports of a shooting at 3700 Southwest Freeway,” police said. “This is an active and developing situation. Please avoid the area. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available.”
Lakewood Church, a megachurch about 10 km from downtown Houston, “shot fire” and X said in: “There is an active situation in which shots have been fired against Lakewood. Law enforcement is at the scene. We have so much information at this point. Please pray for Lakewood and our community.”
Also Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez Public about the incident and said: “Information remains preliminary as things are still developing. The would-be assailant is believed to have been killed, who was shot dead by one of our officers at the scene. “I’m on my way to the scene.”
A Lakewood parishioner at the scene told CNN affiliate KPRC that he was inside the church waiting for a Spanish service to begin when he heard multiple gunshots. A church usher then ordered the man to flee, he told KPRC. According to the church’s website, the service was scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. ET.

Lakewood Church, now located in the sports stadium, was founded in 1950 by Austin’s father.
