Aquaman 2: Amber Heard speaks out after DC film’s controversy and failure at the box office – Cinema News

Currently in the casting of “Aquaman 2”, Amber Heard thanks her fans for their unwavering support.

Starring in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom on Dec. 20 — her first film to hit theaters since the end of her trial against ex-husband Johnny Depp — Amber Heard is thanking fans for their support.

Mera’s interpreter, Arthur’s companion (Jason Momoa), who first appeared in 2017’s Justice League, posted a message on his Instagram account with photos from the film’s set.

“After all this time, Aquaman 2 made a splash (sorry, that’s too easy). Thank you to all my fans for their unwavering support and Mera’s return to Aquaman. Thank you so much.”

The comments followed controversy over possible scenes being cut from his character in Aquaman 2. In May 2022, during her trial, the actress revealed that the script for James Wan’s feature film had been altered to cut her scenes.

“I was given a script, then different versions where the action sequences were removed. Without spoiling too much, the two characters faced off against each other. In the new versions, my character did fewer things. They didn’t remove the bad things. I stayed fought for. on this film. They didn’t want me in it.”

Director James Wayne denied Amber Heard’s comments in the columnEntertainment Weekly. According to him, if Mera is less present in this second part, it is only due to a deliberate script choice. The latter wants to make this film a buddy-movie.

“I always said that the first Aquaman was about Arthur and Mera’s journey and the 2nd would be about Arthur and Orm (Patrick Wilson). The first was a mix of romance, action and adventure. The second was a mix of bromance, action. And adventure. I won’t say much.”.

With a budget of $205 million, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom has grossed $258 million internationally so far. In France, the feature film attracted 93,494 viewers (including 25,963 in previews) on its first day, while the first Aquaman attracted 150,003 viewers. Fifteen days after its theatrical release, the latest DCU adventure brought more than 1.2 million viewers to French theaters. This is a setback for the studio and confirmation that superhero movies are no longer popular.

Will James Gunn and Peter Suffern’s total overhaul of the DCU succeed in bringing audiences back to theaters? Reply Gunn’s film, Superman: Legacy, will be released on July 9, 2025, the first part of the new DC Universe.
