Shakira breaks record and becomes most listened to Latin artist, after song about betrayal

The separation between Shakira and Gerard Piqué continues to make noise. Last Monday (23), the Colombian’s new song — the song “Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53”, which brings provocations to the soccer player — placed her at the top of the list of most heard Latin artists in the world. It is the first time that a woman has occupied this position, according to data from the Spotify platform.

Shakira surpassed the numbers of Puerto Rican Bad Bunny, a rapper who led the ranking for about three years. The singer reached the historic mark of almost 68.7 million monthly listeners on the platform. She is now the third artist with the most monthly listeners, behind only Taylor Swift and Rihanna. In the overall list, Shakira is the ninth most listened to in the world.

The song, which was already the most listened to in the world in the last week, now occupies second position in the global ranking of the most listened to songs on Spotify. In the first 24 hours alone, the track was listened to 14.3 million times. The composition gives details of Shakira’s relationship with the former soccer player and hints at the betrayals she suffered from her ex-husband.

In the song recorded with rapper Bizarrap, Shakira suggests that her ex-husband and his new girlfriend, 23-year-old student Clara Chía Martí, are “suckers” and that, despite Clara Chía having “a good name, clearly , is not how it sounds”, as he states.

Shakira and Pique were together for over a decade and had two children. The divorce took place in June 2022, after the Colombian found out that she was being cheated on. According to the singer, Clara attended the couple’s residence while Shakira and Piqué were still married.
