What are the keys to achieving well-being at work?

Dr. Daniel López Rosetti offers a reflection on why it is necessary to enjoy the time in which we are working.

What is the relationship between the happiness and work? Some may say that happiness does not exist. It isn’t true. What happens is that in medicine we call it perceived subjective well-being. It is that situation in which one has peace, serenity, calm, that he feels good.

In the first place, one is not happy spontaneously and we have to do things, make an effort to be happy. On the one hand, there are the specific characteristics of each workedThis is a topic that is related to occupational medicine, and how healthy work environments are created.

But in this case, I’m talking to you, the person, as an individual, what do I try to do to be happy at work? That is what we do with our patients when we treat them from stress medicine.

If I give up being happy in my job, I am almost giving up the complete happiness of life. To give an example, if a person is 60 years old, a third of their life, about 20 years, has been spent sleeping. Another 40 years he has spent awake, and of those four decades, at least three, about 30 years, he has lived working or studying.

Seeking well-being in the work environment consists of having good relationships with colleagues at work, doing what I like or trying to enjoy what I have to do.

The brain is a social organ, human beings need each other, that is why it is important to get along with others, because in essence, humans are social beings.

So, you have to make an effort, and this is individual, to feel good at work, to share with others, to have fun, to do tasks that pass your time in a good way.

We have already talked about the phrase “It is what it is”, to you, to me, to all of us, things happen that we do not like, problems that we must solve and unpleasant situations, but they touch us the same way throughout life. They touch us like cards in a turn. You have the cards and, as with the cards, that hand is what you were dealt.

The issue is how I handle those letters, how I manage my reality. To face bad circumstances and not be overcome by anguish and suffering, it is good to have philosophical resources, mental processes that help us size reality and evaluate it from another perspective.

Because if you give up well-being at work, you are giving up well-being in your entire life (remember the calculation we made of the number of years you spend working or studying).

Therefore, I recommend that you look for happiness at work, one way or another. And let’s remember, you are not happy spontaneously, we have to do something to achieve it.
