(CNN Spanish) — Cuban businessman Felipe Valls, founder of the iconic Versailles restaurant in Miami, Florida, died this Saturday, his granddaughter, Nicole Valls, confirmed to CNN. She was 89 years old.
Nicole Valls did not give further details and limited herself to saying that the public relations company that works for the family will later give more comments on the death of the businessman and on the funeral services.
The Versailles restaurant, located on the emblematic Calle 8 in Miami, has become a meeting point for the Cuban community in exile since it opened its doors 51 years ago.
The place is usually the point of concentration for activists and members of the Cuban community in South Florida, and serves as the meeting point for demonstrations on political issues that involve the island.
