Jorge Sánchez became a soccer sinner on the night of December 19, 2019, when América played the Liga MX final against Rayados de Monterrey. In an inexplicable play, the azulcrema winger was unable to reject a ball that was measured to him. It was a routine play for a professional footballer and much more so for someone who had become a starter in a short time.

However, the ball reached the feet of Rogelio Funes Mori, who defeated Guillermo Ochoa and placed the tie that, in the end, extended the game to penalties with the consequent victory of the people from Monterrey. The villain pointed out by all was Sánchez.

Sánchez is a player of moments. Although he has overcome that terrible moment with America, it is also true that during these three years he has not stopped giving worrying lurches for a player that has become constant in the Mexican National Team. It should be remembered that during the first part of the cycle there was much preference, on the part of the Tata Martino, towards Luis Rodríguez, the “Chaka”, of the Tigers. But for a year the feline player ceased to be considered and that position became entirely Sánchez’s, which to his and del Tri’s misfortune has not finished convincing.

Unfortunately, the players who have tried themselves in that position have also not looked like they could be real options to end Sánchez’s tenure. Kevin Alvarezthe Mexican soccer champion with the Tuzos, had his chances in the last friendlies that El Tri played against Peru and Colombia, but his performance made it clear that he is not here to be a starter and less in a tournament of the importance and pressure that a World Cup always represents. Julian Araujo, A young man of dual nationality who plays for the LA Galaxy, he has been present in three matches with the national team, two of them in international friendly matches that do not add up in terms of quality and where the Mexican-American could not stand out or turn the that Sánchez has presented so far.

These signs of inconsistency have also deserved criticism from Ajax fans themselves, who do not see Sánchez as an element in which they can place their trust. And this has happened in the most important games of this first semester, as was the case of the matches before Liverpool and Napoli, in which the youth squad from Santo Domingo suffered hand in hand with Luis Díaz and the Georgian sensation Jvicha Kvaratsjelia. In both cases he was exhibited. The same thing happened in the Dutch classic at the weekend. Sánchez did not commit a serious error as such, but the goal fell on his side after a center in which he did not even press and gave the passer freedom.

an early trip

Gerardo Martino is running out of options and for Qatar 2022 there is no one else who can cover the right side better than Sánchez himself. The arrival of the man born in Torreón, Coahuila in European football came suddenly. Almost nothing before the Apertura 2022 started, Jorge remained focused with América to face the new tournament, however, the offers from the Dutch team quickly put the board of the azulcrema team to work and in the blink of an eye, the Mexican winger was already doing his medical exams in the land of tulips.

Although many recognized that Sánchez had increased his soccer level, it was also known that he had deficiencies in the brand or attack. The former Americanist arrived at the Amsterdam team in August and with just two months there, the coach alfred schreuder it has begun to give him confidence for big dates. Nothing seems certain when talking about Jorge Sánchez. It seems, three years later, that the ghost is still haunting him.
