The Board of Governors of this institution has approved rules and regulations that will govern the race to the Oscarwhich are delivered on March 12, 2023.
After two installments influenced by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Academy is now reinstating the mandatory theatrical release requirement for all films nominated for an award. This must have taken place between January 1, 2022 and December 31, 2022.
The board also updated the Academy’s rules that dictate how companies and individuals can promote the films and achievements of Academy members. Businesses can now, under certain circumstances, send digital links to materials directly to voters.
As musicals continue their resurgence, the decision has been made to ban more than three songs from the same film from being submitted for consideration in the Best Original Song category.
To compete in the sound category, films must now be made available to members of the sound branch, particularly when a film’s release date is after the opening of the preliminary voting cycle.
