Fear in the center of Havana in Cuba, due to a strong explosion that destroyed the Saratoga Hotel, in the early hours of Friday. Around 11 o’clock, four floors of the historic and luxurious 5-star hotel, located a few meters from the Capitol, were devastated by what appears to be an accident.
According to initial information from local media, the disaster was in fact due to a gas leak. An official death toll has not yet been drawn up, but the dead would be at least 4 and the wounded 19. Police and firefighters continue to search in the rubble. There are 13 missing.

The history of the Saratoga hotel
The hotel, built in the 1930s and has 96 rooms, reopened in 2005 after renovations, according to its website. It was currently under renovation. In the past it has hosted the likes of Madonna and Beyoncé. President Miguel Diaz-Canel arrived at the crash site, accompanied by Prime Minister Manuel Marrero and President of the National Assembly Esteban Lazo.
