Arrested in California for suspected attempted murder

The expeller of Mexican descent and former champion of the UFC, Cain Velasquezwas arrested for alleged participation in a shooting last Monday afternoon, February 28 in California.

According to information from NBC Bay Arena, Velasquez would have been imprisoned without right to bail until the facts are clarified.

The San José Police Department reported an incident at the intersection of the Monterrey Highway and Bailey Avenue, where a person was injured by a firearm, noting that the injuries sustained are not life-threatening.

Also, through social networks, they reported that: “Caín Velásquez was the suspect arrested yesterday in connection with this incident. He was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail for attempted murder.”

“The motive and circumstances surrounding this incident are still under investigation at this time,” the statement read.

The last time that Velasquez competed in mmait was in February 2019, being knocked out in 26 seconds by Francis Ngannou; current heavyweight champion.

For his part, Cain won the UFC heavyweight championship twice.

Years after his retirement, on February 19 he joined as coach of Gabriel Benitez.
