She is just WOW!
Actress Sofia Vergara (48) is the most successful actress in the world based on money this year. She bagged a total of $ 43 million. Now she has also been nominated for two People’s Choice Awards and was able to take one home with her – category: “The Comedy TV Star of 2020”!
But Sofia flickered relatively late on our screens for an acting star. What did she actually do before her role as the power Colombian in “Modern Family”?
▶ ︎ It all started in 1972 in Baranquilla, Colombia, where she was born. Her father was a cattle breeder, her mother a housewife. My first job in front of the camera came at the age of 17: A Pepsi advertisement broadcast in Latin America. 1989. Your breakthrough!
According to an interview by “blackfilm.com”, jobs followed in television shows on the Spanish-language channel “Univision”. She moved to the USA. Sofia: “You (the broadcaster, d. R.) brought me from Colombia to Miami.”
There she hosted a travel show and a game show for several years. She landed her first job on the international stage in 1999 in an episode of the cult series “Baywatch”.
After that, there were always small guest appearances in various series and some roles in films. So not a particularly big number …
Until the nationwide US broadcaster “ABC” became aware of her: There she played a leading role in “Hot Properties” in 2005. In 2007 she also starred in “Knights of Prosperity”. The foundation stone for their great success was laid.
Because only two years later, in 2009, the same broadcaster hired her for the role of her life: Gloria Delgado-Pritchett, in “Modern Family”.
And then Pepsi came around the corner again, the beverage brand that started its career in the first place. But this time she wasn’t all alone – with: David Beckham. So Sofia has finally arrived among the superstars of this earth.
Promotional deals like this one and her role in “Modern Family” earned her so much money that this year she got the “Forbes” list of the highest paid actresses.
And the remuneration at “America’s Got Talent”, various sponsorship and license agreements also contribute to the financial success, including a jeans line at Walmart and furniture at Rooms To Go.
So she lives the American Dream …

… not quite …
Her private life was quite rocky. Again and again she had to suffer setbacks. In 1989, her brother Rafael was killed in an attempted kidnapping in Colombia.
In 2000 Sofia developed thyroid cancer, which thankfully could be removed. She still has to take medication to this day.
In 2011 her younger brother Julio was deported from the United States. He is a drug addict and was caught before the law. Sofia said to “CBS”: “To see someone gradually die over 10 years is the worst punishment. Now he’s like a different person. “
As sad and painful as it all is – she never let herself be dissuaded from her dream. In the same interview with “CBS” she said: “With so many bad things that happen, a thick skin forms. You just have to take a deep breath and carry on. “
There is someone speaking who is even harder than what you portray in her series roles.
