Chicago Animal Shelter accepts crypto and enables Dogecoin to help real dogs

Chicago animal rescue organization PAWS Chicago recently announced that it is now accepting donations in cryptocurrency. The American Midwestern city animal shelter plans to have the shelters end euthanasia for the cats and dogs they care for, and any donation will help to achieve that goal.

The shelter announced the decision to accept cryptocurrencies on Tuesday, August 24th. According to the statement, PAWS Chicago will start accepting Bitcoin (BTC / USD), Ethereum (ETH / USD), Dogecoin (DOGE / USD), as well as other coins and tokens that will support its operations.

The aim is to appeal to a tech-savvy target group among potential donors who might be interested in using their coins for a good cause. At the same time, the animal shelter provides the cryptocurrencies mentioned with an additional purpose.

The shelter is promoting crypto donations with digital posters showing a dog shooting a laser from its eyes.

The crypto community can save the lives of animals in Chicago

PAWS Chicago is committed to reducing the number of euthanized shelters in the United States and has performed over 300,000 spay and neuter surgeries in the 25 years of its existence. According to calculations by PAWS, the number of homeless animals killed has been reduced by 91%, at least in Chicago.

However, PAWS Chicago believes there is still room for improvement and the next step in that direction is connecting with the growing crypto community in the US. The organization’s executive director, Susanna Homan, stated that members of the crypto industry can help secure the future of animal welfare in this region. They can also help save the lives of homeless pets and animals raised on the streets.

Interestingly, by adopting Dogecoin, the meme-based cryptocurrency – which uses a Shiba Inu as a mascot – the shelter will be able to save real dogs and cats. The coin received tremendous attention and popularity in 2021 thanks to the efforts of its own community, but also the billionaire entrepreneur and CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, Elon Musk.
