Scarlett Johansson (36) almost didn’t get one of her biggest roles! Since 2010, the actress has been an integral part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe: In Iron Man 2, the American embodied Natasha Romanoff alias Black Widow for the first time – and then stood in front of the camera as a former Russian agent for six Avengers flicks. But what many fans probably didn’t know: Scarlett was not the first choice for the role – but Emily Blunt (38), who had to cancel!
On the radio show The Howard Stern Show the British woman now stunned with this revelation. At the time, she was supposed to portray the red-haired superheroine – but had to refuse because she was contractually bound to the film “Gulliver’s Travels”. “I would like to make this clear: I was contractually obliged to do so, I did not want to do ‘Gulliver’s Travels’. I was contractually obliged to do it. That broke my heart a bit”, she described.
But what exactly was the problem at the time? How Emily explained that after “The Devil Wears Prada” she signed a contract with the studio for further films. This has ruined many possibilities for other productions, as the mother of two explained: “Otherwise, I choose my roles very consciously. The films I make mean something to me!”
Absolutely. She would have done a great job!
No, Scarlett was the better choice.
