Is the tablecloth finally cut between Dave Bautista and Marvel Studios? Apparently, because the MCU star now surprised with allegations against those responsible.
The intact and happy Marvel family is getting sensitive cracks. First there was Scarlett Johansson’s lawsuit against Disney because, according to her, “Black Widow” was released on Disney + without consultation, although she had received a promise that the film should only start in the cinema. Now another actor from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is also making allegations.
We’re talking about Dave Bautista, who appeared in the Guardians of the Galaxy films as well as in the last two Avengers adventures Drax played. A fan asked Bautista why he was in the upcoming animated series “Marvel’s What If …?” his role does not speak. His answer should come as a surprise:
“Let’s start with that I was never asked.”
According to Dave Bautista, those responsible at Marvel Studios never approached the Drax actor, but simply cast a new speaker directly into his role. A truly unusual campaign, after all, “What If …?” Is also advertised with the fact that several stars from the MCU such as Chadwick Boseman, Josh Brolin and Natalie Portman set their well-known characters to music themselves.
The German Trailer tells you what to expect from “What If …?”:
Tired of Dave Bautista at Marvel Studios and Disney?
Since Drax is so popular with fans because of Bautista’s comedic interludes, it seems illogical that those responsible should do without the original here. Did you want to save his salary? That seems rather unlikely. But this may also be the first indication that the tablecloth between Marvel Studios and Dave Bautista has finally been cut.

After director and writer James Gunn was temporarily kicked out of “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3”, Bautista shot with clear criticism against Disney and Marvel Studios. Although Gunn has since been reinstated, it remains to be seen whether those responsible would like Bautista’s comments. Especially since the actor announced his exit from the MCU after “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” and thus presented the actual decision-makers with a fait accompli.
Whether this is why they decided to work with Bautista as little as possible is of course pure speculation. However, the statement made by the Drax performer at least suggests that there is no excellent relationship between them. The fans, who naturally want more Drax in the MCU, are also suffering. At least a (farewell) performance is offered to them: “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” starts on May 4, 2023 in German cinemas. “Marvel’s What If …?” Starts on August 11, 2021 at Disney +, with Drax but without Dave Bautista.
