As if everyone had been looking forward to this one moment, the designers, the stylists, the stars anyway. At the Oscars in 2021, a lot was different, but there was hardly any restraint in the looks.
Photo series with 25 pictures
Even though the pandemic meant that this year’s Oscars had to take place on a much smaller scale, there was little sign of restraint in fashion.
Strong colours, sometimes opulent shapes and extraordinary combinations shaped the picture – for women, but also for men. As a counterpoint: clear white. Perhaps a tribute to the medical staff? In the run-up, the organizers had warned in writing to refrain from casual looks. Too big was probably the worry that the house suit would be the new evening dress by now. The fact that some stars even appeared in gold made them sparkle like an Oscar.

Highlight: Giorgio Armani’s tulle robe for Amanda Seyfried
Regina King opened the ceremony – and she did it with broad shoulders. Carey Mulligan came in a golden bustier robe with a wide skirt by Valentino. Giorgio Armani provided the big wow effect. He dressed Amanda Seyfried in a bright red tulle robe with a deep V-neck.
The singer Tiara Thomas came in a stylish white trouser suit and presented her very deep décolleté in a self-determined manner.

Brad Pitt with “Man Bun” at the Oscars
One who caused a stir with his appearance even far away from the show on the red carpet was Brad Pitt. The actor was seen on stage during the ceremony in a classic black tuxedo and with a bow tie. So far, so unspectacular. But he wore his medium-length blond hair tied at the back of his head to an elegant “Man Bun”.
A look that not only thrilled the viewers in front of the TV screens, but also the South Korean Yuh-Jung Youn. When she received her Academy Award from the 57-year-old, the actress seemed absolutely enraptured by Pitt. “Finally, Mr. Brad Pitt. Nice to see you,” she said during her acceptance speech. The British magazine “Glamour” later shared a short video on Twitter showing the two leaving the stage.
Brad Pitt’s film production company Plan B distributes Youn’s winning film “Minari – Where We Put Down Roots” in the USA in collaboration with A24. In addition, the Hollywood star himself worked as an executive producer on the work.
