Father to be released as guardian soon
Britney Spears has been fighting her father’s guardianship for quite some time. She calls for immediate dismissal.
Britney Spears (39) was incapacitated in 2008 and her father Jamie Spears (69) was appointed as her guardian. For some time now, the singer has been fighting against this guardianship. Their new lawyer Mathew Rosengart has now filed a motion to dismiss Jamie Spears with immediate effect and instead to use the auditor Jason Rubin provisionally as soon as possible, as the US magazine “People” reports.
Spears’ had been approved in mid-July to elect a new lawyer. Rosengart had officially submitted an application shortly afterwards to replace the singer’s father as financial guardian. “While a two-month wait for a hearing in the application may not seem significant in the context of 13 years, Ms. Spears should not be forced to continue to feel traumatized, unable to sleep, and continue to suffer,” according to documents available to the magazine. “Every day counts.”
An end to her father’s “rule”?
For a variety of reasons, “the time has come for the reign of Mr. Spears to come to an end.” The documents also state that Britney Spears is asking for her father to be released as guardian “as soon as the court allows” – if possible as early as August 23. A further hearing is currently not scheduled until 29 September.
An insider familiar with the matter is also said to have told the magazine that the singer plans to have Rubin review all issues of recent years. Spears is determined to “find out if their funds have been misused,” the source explains.
