Next stop – pure glamour!
Hollywood icon Angelina Jolie (46, “Maleficent”) and her daughter Shiloh (15) indulged in perhaps the greatest luxury of our time: They took the Orient Express from Paris to Venice at the weekend.
At the same time, they embarked on a journey back in time, when it was not a matter of getting from A to B as quickly as possible – but as elegantly as possible. And exactly as it was over 120 years ago.
From 1883, the train first connected Paris and Constantinople (today Istanbul) in regular service to bring high society to the hip Oriental metropolis in just under 82 hours. In 1977, the train ceased regular service – and only resumed it in 1982 after five years of renovation of the historic coaches.
Why did mother and daughter make the trip now? unclear. And it doesn’t matter at all.
Because if you travel with the Orient Express, you really only want one thing: to enjoy decelerated at a maximum speed of 120 km/h – and forget about time.
Of course, this has its price: The 24-hour journey from Paris to Venice costs about 9850 euros in a Grand Suite – per person!
On board, guests can expect a personal butler service around the clock. In the highest category, champagne is even served free of charge. Over 1700 bottles are emptied per season. The “normal” guests pay 280 euros per bottle of Dom Pérignon. Matching: Beluga caviar for breakfast. The 50-gram can costs 580 euros.
If you feel even more of an appetite for luxury: In Paris, not only the spoiled clientele climbs in, but also boxes of Breton lobster. Other, fresh ingredients are loaded along the route.
Is it possible to travel even more luxuriously by train? Almost not! Or is it? In 2011, Jolie – still happy with Brad Pitt (57) at this station of her life – rented an entire train for a trip from London to Glasgow (price: 50,000 euros). At that time, however, the other five children were also allowed to travel with them.
