Apex Legends, Electronic Arts and Respawn Entertainment Announce the Global Series

The Apex Legends Global Series will include online and live events for PC gamers, who will compete for a prize pool of over $ 3 million.

Electronic Arts and Respawn Entertainment have announced the Apex Legends Global Series. The tournament will include online and live events for PC players who will compete for a prize pool of over $ 3 million. The Apex Legends Global Series will initially feature 12 global live events, organized by EA and Respawn or produced by major eSports tournament organizers such as PGL and GLL.

“The competition is at the heart of Apex Legends,” said Vince Zampella, Head of Respawn Entertainment. “ESports will play an important role in the future of Apex Legends and it all starts here, with the Apex Legends Global Series. We can’t wait to see who, among our millions of players, will become a true legend of the arena”.

Apex Legends Global Series is an open and inclusive ecosystem created to give all players the opportunity to become a star. Video players from over 60 countries will be able to participate, meeting the minimum age and PC system requirements.

The competitive route will start with the online competition, with competitors progressing to participate in regional Challenger Events and Premier Eventsglobal. Players will earn Apex Legends Global Series points based on their online performance and some live events. Those who remain at the top of the rankings can participate in the Apex Legends Global Series Majors, the highest competitive level of live events.

“Apex Legends is one of the most impacting launches in video game history and has enormous potential in the eSport world,” said John Nelson, Competitive Gaming Commissioner at Apex Legends. “Through close communication with our community, we have created an accessible ecosystem of Apex Legends in which any player can become the pro-protagonist, while the whole world watches the unique and engaging evolution of Battle Royale eSports”.

Each of the first three Majors will see 100 teams of three players from all over the world. The fourth Major, the Apex Legends Global Series Championship, will be the grand finale. Only the top 60 teams in the world will be able to fight for a prize pool of $ 1 million and the title of Apex Legends Global Series World Champion.

All four Majors will present Apex Legends’ exclusive Match Point format, which debuted at the Apex Legends Preseason Invitational in September. Match Point requires teams in the final to reach a point threshold through a combination of placement and accumulated kills. Apex Legends is the only exporter of Battle Royale to present this game mechanic to offer a pure adrenaline experience.

The first Apex Legends Global Series online tournament will be held on January 25th 2020. The recordings will open for the event in early January. Players will earn Apex Legends Global Series points and, based on their online tournament performance, an invitation to the first Major, scheduled for March 13-15, 2020 at the Esports Stadium in Arlington. Many of the online tournaments in the global Apex Legends series will be produced by the new EA Broadcaster Center at the headquarters. Subsequent details of the tournament will be announced shortly.

Developed by Respawn Entertainment, Apex Legends offers a team Battle Royale experience where gamers choose from one of 11 legends – each with their own unique skills and playing styles – in a battle to the death. The fighters will be able to choose between unique characters like Bloodhound, the tracker that can see recent enemy activities on the map, or Lifeline, a battlefield doctor who can protect teammates and bring them back from the deadly abyss. The balance of the team and synergistic work are fundamental since each Legend is easy to know, but difficult to master.
