Sony Worldwide Studios president told The Hollywood Reporter that the success of Marvel’s Spider-Man was one of the key factors in the new agreement.

Following the announcement of the acquisition of Insomniac Games by Sony Interactive EntertainmentShawn Layden of SIE Worldwide Studios discussed the new deal in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

“Insomniac has been our partner for over twenty years, and I have worked with Ted (Price, ed) and the team since Spyro the Dragon. Since then they have dealt with the Ratchet & Clank series, Resistance and more recently from Spider-Man. So we talked about it for a long time, “said Layden, talking about the time it took to finalize the deal.

“The most important thing, when acquiring talents, is to ask yourself if they fit into your culture if they match the study and what you want to become. Insomniac is the perfect solution for Worldwide Studios. They offer quality and innovation, two concepts on which we always base ourselves. I can only express positive words towards Ted and his team. ”

When asked if the great success of Marvel’s Spider-Man was a key moment, Layden replied: “Certainly. Spider-Man underlines how significant Insomniac is in the world of video games as a whole. There are few independent studios that succeed to reach the quality level of Insomniac.

Layden also wanted to specify that the new partnership will not lead to changes in the relationship between the two companies. “They are a fantastic studio, they offer fantastic content. I don’t think anyone can tell them how to make a game. What Worldwide Studios offers them is a closer relationship with innovation, be it technology or design. We have a number of teams with an extraordinary talent for creating games We are in a situation where all our teams exchange technology, techniques, and innovation with each other, to improve and reinforce each other There is nothing that will change their culture or their ability to offer the fantastic titles they have been producing for twenty years “.
