According to rumors, at Gamescom 2019, Microsoft could reveal the acquisition of at least one new development study, as done at E3 2019.
At Gamescom 2019, Microsoft may reveal that it has acquired at least one new development studio for Xbox Game Studios. To reveal it was the Klobrille insider on Twitter, which however did not provide details on the matter, remaining very vague and not even giving it for certain.
For several months, Microsoft has been acquiring studies on development studies to upgrade its catalog of offers for both Xbox Scarlett, its new console announced but not yet fully revealed, and for Xbox Game Pass, its subscription service. Among the latest acquisitions are Obsidian Entertainment, Ninja Theory, inXile, and Double Fine, but evidently the Redmond company has not yet finished spending.
Just two months ago, Phil Spencer, the head of the Xbox division, had stated that he would like to acquire a Japanese studio. Is that what we talk about? Fortunately, there’s not much left for Gamescom 2019, when we’ll find out if the rumor is true or if it was too hasty.
I have good reasons to believe that there will be at the very least one more studio addition to XGS in 2019.
