Will your pension increase or decrease in March?

In March, the Agirc-Arrco supplementary pension amount will change. Some retirees will benefit from the increase, while others will see their pensions cut due to updated Social Security contribution rates.

Agirc Arrco pensions will increase in March for some and decrease for others

Like employees, retirees are also subject to taxes, such as contributions towards social debt repayments (CRDS) or health insurance contributions. In March, about 13.3 million beneficiaries of the Agirc-Arrco supplementary pension will see their pensions changed. And for good reason, the rate of Generalized Social Contribution (CSG) changed from January 1, 2024, which leads to an improvement in the amount of pension paid in March.

A change that will have a different effect on the amount of supplementary pension. There are four scenarios. The first category concerns those who benefit from total exemption and who are not subject to social security contributions. The second reduction is subject to CRDS and CSG at 3.8%, while the third category (medium rate) is subject to 6.6% as well as Casa and CRDS. Finally, the fourth category is the general rate, with CSG 8.3%, Casa and CRDS applicable.

How will supplementary pension be calculated for the month of March?

Specifically, retirees whose CSG rates are increased in 2024 will receive a lower pension than they would have normally received. And for good reason, January and February pensions were calculated as per the old rate. Consequently, the excess payment will be deducted from the March monthly payment. Conversely, for members of Agirc-Arco, whose CSG has been reduced, the pension for the month of March will be increased with the reimbursement of the contributions collected unnecessarily in January and February.

From April, retirees whose pensions were increased in March will continue to receive higher monthly payments than before, while those whose pensions were reduced will receive a lower pension than they received before March. To find the new amount of your retirement pension after updating the CSG, it is recommended to consult your personal account on the Agirc-Arrco website.
