What it changes, advantages and disadvantages
Mustache is launching a brand new version of its Lundi 27 urban electric bike. Here’s the Lundi 27.6, which offers several minor improvements, including a belt instead of a traditional chain. The Kiox 500 on-board computer also makes its debut.
Mustache is one of the most famous electric bike brands in France today. Its catalog includes models designed for city as well as mountain biking, gravel and all-terrain riding. We’ve also written a thorough explanation guide to help you better navigate its sprawling catalog.
The Monday 27 is perhaps one of the French manufacturer’s iconic VAEs. Iconic, because it is the very first model that was designed by its engineers. Various generations have succeeded one another over the years, bringing further improvements to this urban gem. At the beginning of 2024, a completely new version is appearing.
Belt instead of chain: What difference does it make?
The mustache here is the Monday 27.6, which now coexists with the Monday 27.1, 27.3 (which we tested), and 27.5. This 27.6 iteration is the most premium of the four. It actually takes a large chunk of the Monday 27.5 tech sheet, with a few differences. Mustache has actually integrated a belt transmission, a Gates CDX to be exact.
What are the advantages of a belt on an electric bike? Already, it does not get dirty. Above all, it does not work with any derailleur: in fact, you cannot derail. In terms of maintenance, it is also more practical: it does not need to be regularly lubricated or cleaned to function perfectly.
Moreover, its lifespan is considered to be longer than that of a chain. And if you want to ride in complete silence, good news, the belt provides this dose of noise silence. The only major disadvantage to highlight is its cost: it costs more than a chain, and therefore, by extension, increases the cost of the bicycle.
A big screen
Monday 27.6 therefore raises the bill to 4399 euros (500 Wh battery), or 4599 euros (625 Wh battery). As a reminder, Monday 27.5 starts at 3999 euros. This price difference can be explained by other additions: our flagship of the day, for example, gets a 2.8-inch Kiox 500 screen (40% larger than the Kiox 300).
On the other hand, the power of the charger is lower: 2 Ah, compared to the block of 4 Ah for Mustache 27.5. Expect very long charging sessions.
