Gabriel Attal announced on Friday that the government is going to announce “three heavy sanctions” against three companies that do not respect the Aglim law, which aims to protect farmers’ incomes in terms of negotiations with producers and supermarkets.
According to information from BFMTV, the 3 companies concerned are industrialists: two subsidiaries of the meat specialist Bigard and the Breton dairy Malo, which belongs to the Sill group.
“The objective is clear: to respect Igalim everywhere, without exception,” declared the Prime Minister during a trip to Haute-Geronne, “our hand will not waver,” he continued. He also announced a tightening of controls and promised to bring “maximum pressure” to the ongoing negotiations between the players.
What restrictions?
Earlier in the day, it was the Minister of Economy, Bruno Le Maire, who condemned the “violation” of the Igalim law by manufacturers and distributors. He recalled that the latter could be sanctioned up to 2% of their turnover if they do not comply quickly.
While farmers have been protesting for several days, particularly condemning non-compliance with the law, the Directorate General for Competition, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Control (DGCCRF) has increased its controls in recent days. Bruno Le Maire condemns controls that “reveal a certain number of violations downstream of price formation as well as on the part of distributors”.
