The Stars extended their winning streak to five with a 2-0 win over Tigres del Lici in the 2023-2024 Fall-Winter Baseball Tournament qualifier at the city’s Tetelo Vargas Stadium.
Starter Austin Davis was the Stars’ “star player” with just two hits, two walks and seven of 20 batters tossed over five and a third innings.
The victory tied the green team for first place with a 7-1 record, extending a two-game lead over the blue team, which has a 5-3 record.
The Stars’ pitching led to 23 innings without conceding any runs from the opposition. That streak began in the sixth inning of last Wednesday’s game against the Cibao Giants, whom they defeated 5-4 in extra innings, while they defeated the Giants 3-0 on Thursday.
“Against All” takes a break this Saturday, but resumes on Sunday, when the Stars travel to San Francisco de Macoris to face Gigantes del Cibao at the Julian Javier Stadium, kicking off at five in the afternoon.
Fernando Tatis Sr.’s team took advantage of two errors in a single action in the seventh inning to clinch the victory, its fourth straight and seventh in the last three regular-season wins at Tatelo Vargas Stadium.
Miguel Sano was substituted and Alfredo Reyes ran in his place. Raimel Tapia advances to third, defender Davell Lugo makes a bad shot to first, and Reyes scores from first. Then, outfielder Magnuris Sierra hit a bad shot at the plate, which Tapia took advantage of to get in the race.
The winning pitcher was reliever Jose Jose (1-0), reliever Hansel Robles (0-1), while the save fell to Ronel Blanco, his second in the semifinal series.
Davis was replaced by Roman Mendez (6), Gerson Moreno (7), Jose Jose (7), Luis Gonzalez (8) and Ronel Blanco (9).
Meanwhile, Jack Thompson started for the Tigers with three hits and two strikeouts over two and two-thirds innings. He was escorted by Carlos Vargas (3), Williams Jarez (4), Jonathan Arrow (5), Luis Frias (6), Hansel Robles (7) and Jean Carlos Mejia (8).
