Minecraft Legends is officially ending development

Less than nine months after its launch, developers Mojang and Blackbird Interactive have announced that work on Minecraft Legends is coming to an end for good. The game will continue to be supported at a functional level but no further content will be developed or released after the launch of the final major update this month.

“Since launch, we’ve listened to community feedback and implemented a series of changes and tweaks to improve the game. With that complete, we are now going to take a step back from development,” reads a blog post announcing the decision. “While we won’t be releasing any new content (ie updates, Lost Legends or Marketplace DLC) for Minecraft Legends, the fun doesn’t stop here. “We will continue to play the game alongside our community as those incendiary piglins show no signs of slowing down.”

“Our existing Lost Legends challenges will be available for free and you will still be able to earn rewards if you claim victory. We will of course continue to provide technical support to players, and we will not remove any functionality or features from the game. PvP and co-op will also be fully functional, so you can keep playing whether you choose to fight Piglins on your own or fight with (or against) friends.

“Thank you for following this heroic journey and helping make Minecraft Legends the game it is today. With the support of our team, our partners, and the Minecraft community, we’ll continue to bring the kinds of games we’re passionate about and new experiences to the Minecraft universe. Together, we organized the overworld, made some delightfully scary friends, and most importantly, showed those piglins that they often mess with the wrong dimension. Keep your banners up because the overworld will always need heroes!”

We gave Minecraft Legends a solid 8/10 in our review, saying “Minecraft Legends is the best Minecraft spin-off yet, offering a completely unique experience with lovingly crafted levels of Minecraft infused Paint. From the moreish campaign to the ridiculously fun versus mode, Minecraft Legends has something for everyone, and I suspect many will love what it has to offer.”
