“I was horrified to see Edward Norton and Scarlett Johansson acting”

He writes, directs and stars in ‘Las Cucarchas’. How did the idea come about?

Well, half with my friend Aret Echevarria, screenwriter and audiovisual editor, who worked in both fields on the project. Two years ago we came up with the script, which expressed concerns about social crisis, inequality, insensitive behavior towards our elders.

His father is from San Sebastian, but his mother was born in the neighborhood of Oliver.

I grew up there, on the same streets as my mother. In my imagination there were scenes and experiences that I wanted to briefly reflect, so we decided that would be one of the filming locations. I requested production support at DPZ, they gave it to us and we decided to start the venture.

Short is hard, like life.

It reflects some of the social consequences of the economic crisis, and how people apparently unable to do certain things can go to unimaginable extremes.

She has a partner, Eduard Fernandez, as the assistant, and Ramon Barea as the lead.

Eduard has just shot a film and a few weeks ago Vinos came to accompany me on the set of Chueca de Casetas. Since he also acts and has many figures, he wanted to lend a hand. I hope to see you in the assembly as well. And about the ramen, what can I say… a luxury. We will release this year, as soon as possible.

His Aragonese ties are evident in the film’s team.

Clean! I also have Laura Contreras, a wonderful actress and a good friend; Raul Sanz, Juan Carlos Corraza’s schoolmate and who, like me, has spent half his life in Madrid; Other interpreters such as Rufino Rodenas or Fernando Rojo, art director Luis Sorando… There are many Aragonese, as well as professionals from Madrid.

You did the opposite too soon.

I studied at the Zaragoza Theater School after finishing high school, studying social studies as well. I was lucky that Pilar Lavega immediately invited me to the Teatro de la Ribera, and then the same thing happened at the Teatro de la EstaciĆ³n, with incredible professionals. The thing is I wanted to delve deeper into the method and try audiovisual; For the first two years in Coraza I moved back and forth from Zaragoza, but finally I settled in Madrid. I also studied dance and worked in that medium. Of course, when something comes home, I happily return to Aragon. I usually visit my parents at least once a month, and I keep in touch with my friends from Monsalud school.

Theater is a natural medium for you.

It has given me great moments; One of the best was the drama ‘Incrementum’ directed by Sergio Paris-Manchetta. We were six actresses with very measured time on stage, the execution was complex and there was a lot of physical and mental exhaustion. We did very well throughout Spain, and the truth is that I felt fulfilled; It was an opportunity to put all your resources to work. I want to go back to the theater.

Wes Anderson recruited her for the role in ‘Asteroid City’.

That was thanks to casting director Sara Bilbatua, who is a great gift. He has known me for a long time, and he called me. I didn’t even take the test. There was a three-day shoot in Chinchon, where they built huge sets in what appears to be a desert in the film. There’s a part of the story that revolves around Edward Norton, a teacher at a sort of very ‘sui generis’ actor’s studio, and I’m one of his students.

Which stars can you spot in that outfit? Were they pleasant?

I had a blast seeing the work of Edward Norton and Scarlett Johansson. Norton was always focused, but at the same time he was kind to everyone. Willem Dafoe is a joker, he tried to make all his teammates feel comfortable. Scarlett is also extremely kind. I left wanting to meet one of my favorite actors, Tom Hanks. In my day he didn’t have to shoot. Pity!
