Hoda has admitted to falling into ‘old habits’ with an ex, hinting that she had a post-breakup affair with her ex-fiancé, Joel Schiffman.
The Today host, 59, admitted on Wednesday’s show while chatting with her co-star Jenna Bush Hager, 42, that Cardi B is joining her estranged husband, Offset, on New Year’s Eve in Miami.
Kotb shared that she could relate to their plight, saying she once found herself in a similar situation with an unnamed former flame.
‘I fell into old habits’, she told Bush Hager, apparently referring to Schiffman, her most recent public relationship.
‘And after it became an old habit I regretted it,’ she added. ‘It’s like one of those things you say to yourself, “A little more willpower and I’d be fine.”‘
Kotb and Schiffman, 65, were Eight years together and when she got engaged for two announced their separation on the Today Show in January 2022.
The broadcast journalist said he could understand how Carby B, 31, and Offset, 32, could have a temporary lapse in judgment following their split.
‘After you’ve been with somebody for seven years, and you see them, and it’s New Year’s Eve, sometimes if you’ve even been broken up for a month or two or whatever… sometimes you forget that what was Bugging (you),’ she said.
‘There are times where you’re like, “What was so bad about that?”
Bush Hager insists that Christmas and New Year are ‘prime traps’ that will tempt you to reach out for sentimental and ex-loves.
‘All the Hallmark movies are like a Christmas tree farmer and a librarian coming together, and you think, “Maybe I should call my ex,” she said.
‘Just to say hi. Just a text. “Hey, just wanted to wish you happy holidays.” That’s all,’ Kotb chimed in.
‘Don’t do that,’ said Bush Hager, warning that it would ‘up you?’ Message and regretful visit.
Cardi B confirmed her separation from Offset in December after six months of marriage. They share two children, five-year-old daughter Sankshatri and two sons Vev.
Despite a recent Christmas outing with their kids and a New Year’s Eve hookup, she has shut down speculation that they have reconciled.
Kotb also has two children with Shiffman, adopted daughters Haley Joy, six, and Hope Kathryn, four.
The former couple met at a book signing in 2013, and they hit it off immediately. They had been together for six years when he popped the question during a trip to Mexico in 2019.
They had to postpone their destination wedding three times due to the pandemic before they called off their engagement in early 2022.
Kotb insisted that there was no bad blood between them, explaining that their relationship just ran its course.
‘I don’t regret a day, not a minute, not a second of our time because it brought me here. ‘I have two incredible children that I share with him,’ she said.
‘And it’s because of Joel that I have Haley and Hope, without question. I think I would be too scared to do it alone. It’s not something I accept, but it’s true.’
Kotb and Schiffman have been devoted to co-parenting their daughters and were both present when their girls had their first day of school in September.
They wore matching rainbow costumes when they took their children trick-or-treating on Halloween, and Kotbe had Christmas stockings hanging in her New York City apartment for Schiffman during the holidays.
