Fortnite officially returns to iOS devices

After years of war, Epic Games reveals what we’ve all been waiting for: return of Fortnite On iOS devices. With the legal battle recently over, the studio is now working to find viable and concrete solutions to bring its battle royale back to iPhones worldwide. The company is starting from Europe after Apple was forced to open up its ecosystem.

It is with pride that the teams announce it to X, in a message that sounds like a passive-aggressive threat. We can read: “Remember Fortnite on iOS? What if we bring it up to date? Later in the year, Fortnite will return to Europe on iOS thanks to the Epic Games Store app. (Thanks to the DMA – an important new law in the EU that makes this possible). Apple, the world is watching

Apple has no choice

If this integration is possible, it is mainly thanks to new European legislation that intends to regulate digital markets. It should be implemented From 7 March, but Apple is already preparing the ground. On the evening of January 25, the firm announced the availability of third-party applications. We explain everything to you in this article, but the implementation and payment terms through these apps are still very unclear.

One thing is for sure, Epic Games wants to fulfill all these conditions to reinstall its game after 4 years of absence. But the studio will do more than bring it back Fortnite on iOS. It will actually implement its Epic Games Store so that players can bypass Apple’s payment system and earn money this way, which will indeed be an official possibility according to Apple.

Apparently, the firm still wants to annoy people who would be tempted to ignore the App Store rules and the 30% commission that goes with it. Apple has always begged and begged A question of device security, which can therefore be more easily subject to fraud and hacking by unregulated applications. Specifically, authorizing alternative stores would not allow Apple to know what comes in and out of the catalog, and therefore check the security of its content in real time.

It remains to be seen when these changes will be implemented on iOS devices. We can trust either company to confirm the event.
