Caitlin Dever Kills Her ‘Good Grief’ Cameo With Hilarious, Inappropriate Funeral Speech

Caitlin Dever has only one, very short scene good grief, the new Daniel Levy Netflix movie that started streaming today. But what a scene. Actually, I would say Caitlin Dever good grief The cameo is the funniest scene in the film.

To be fair to other scenes, good grief It is not strictly a funny film. Written and directed by Shit Creek Starring Daniel Levy, it tells the story of Mark Dreyfuss (Levy), who deals with the aftermath of the tragic and sudden death of her husband Oliver (Luke Evans). Oliver was a successful novelist, whose fantasy book series was being adapted into a film franchise. Thus, the film’s funniest scene takes place at Oliver’s funeral, when the franchise’s lead actress (played by Dever) takes the mic.

Before she opened her mouth to speak, Dever was making me laugh. Her character wears a tight, black strapless dress that barely reaches her mid-thigh. On her head, she wears a black pillbox hat with a lace veil. When she takes the stage, she always carefully crosses one five-inch heel pump in front of another, striking a red carpet pose. It’s a really inspired physical comedy.

She gave a heartfelt speech about how beloved Oliver changed her life by giving her the chance to star in the franchise. Credit to Levy for this hilarious writing monologue. Stand-out lines include: “I remember reading Part The first Victoria Valentine book for my audition,” and “My heart breaks, for her family and for our movie.”

Levy’s reactions to Dever’s antics are pitch-perfect; She gave her patented David Rose slow blink and vision head tilt. Devar then brings it home in the final lines of the speech.

“He had so many stories to tell,” she cries, her voice cracking comically. “But life is absurd. And now we don’t know if we’ll finish shooting the fifth and sixth movies, because he was still writing them.

At this point, Dever turns his head to heaven and addresses the late writer directly. “Oliver, you little slut, I hope the studio gives him the green light in honor, and we continue to tell your story for many years to come. Because we need them! “

I have never laughed so hard at a funeral scene. Unfortunately, Dever never appears in the movie again. Soon after his spiel, David Bradley (aka Argus Filch in Harry Potter) gives an emotional whiplash to the audience by delivering a genuine and heartfelt speech. But even though he’s on screen for less than a minute, Dever makes the entire film. Now that’s what I call talent.

Can we get this woman back in a comedy? It has been almost five years since 2019 Booksmart. Clearly, she was born to make them laugh.
