Oscar nominee Austin Butler shares how he got rid of his Elvis voice in preparation for his role in Apple TV+ Masters of the Air category
After portraying Elvis Presley in Baz Luhrmann’s acclaimed film Elvis biopic, fans noted that Butler couldn’t shake off his voice impression of the legendary musician while promoting the 2022 film. This became a popular topic for moviegoers online, who discussed the actor’s commitment to the role. During a recent interview at The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Butler revealed that it was like transitioning from playing Elvis for three years to playing another character. He confirmed that he had to hire a dialect coach to help him overcome his Elvis accent Masters of the Air.

“It was a lot” Butler said. “I was just trying to remember who I was, I was trying to remember what I liked to do. I thought about Elvis for three years. And then I had that week off, and then I went to London and it was Covid, so I was quarantined for 10 days, so I thought, OK, now for all this energy to learn about World War II. I had a dialect coach to not sound like Elvis in that movie. That was the whole thing.”
in Masters of the Air, Butler plays Major Gale Klevan, part of the Air Force’s 100th Bomb Group unit during World War II. Drama rejoins him Elvis co-star Tom Hanks, who recruited him for the series. “I was having dinner with Tom Hanks in Australia, and he was joking, ‘When you spend three years of your life focusing on this one thing, you’re going to lose your mind, you’ve got something else to jump right into. Find out,'” he recalled. “And another producer, Pat McCormick, who’s a good friend of mine, said, ‘Well Tom, find him something to do,’ and then Tom said, ‘Well, I’ve got this World War II thing that I’m working on. We.”

What’s next for Masters of the Air Austin Butler?
Butler is also set to return to the big screen this March 1 for Denis Villeneuve Dune: Part Two. In the sequel, Butler will play Fayed-Rautha Harkonnen, previously portrayed by Sting in the 1984 adaptation. According to Villeneuve, the Golden Globe winner’s villainous performance is “a cross between a psychopath killer, an Olympic sword master, a snake and Mick Jagger,” he teased. “He has tremendous sex appeal and charisma and craziness. He’s really out there.”
In addition Dune: Part TwoButler will next be seen starring opposite Tom Hardy in Focus Features’ upcoming crime drama Bikeriders. He is also currently attached to helm the film adaptation of Don Winslow City on fire Novel for Sony 3000 Pictures. The project will see Butler playing mob boss Danny Ryan in a modern-day Helen of Troy story.
