Valentine’s Day doesn’t just bring back good memories for the Aim Jacket. In 1989, Claude Baez did not hesitate to thank him despite three championship titles and two Coupes de France.
1980 belonged to the Girondins de Bordeaux. And her trainer, Amy Jacket. When in 1980, after the departure of Raymond Goethals, Claude Baez decided to appoint Ame Jaquet, not even 40 years old and with only four difficult seasons at Olympique Lyonnais for any experience, the bet seemed audacious to say the least.
But in almost a decade, the former midfielder would make the Girondins the benchmark in France with three French Championship titles, two Coupe de France crowns and several European epics. However, when Bordeaux fell into serious financial difficulties during the 1988–89 season, Claude Baez did not hesitate to sacrifice his coach on Valentine’s Day.
Rebellion a year later
Present at the press conference, the Bordeaux president paid tribute to his former coach. ” When you are the president of a club, you have to do things that are not pleasant on the one hand, and on the other hand clean. But the relationship between the two men had been strained for several months and the relationship became strained, making this violent breakup inevitable.
