There are League of Legends champions that are a real godsend for developers in terms of balance. We can think of recent publications like Zeri that continue to be modified until a point of relative equilibrium is reached. But others are simply forgotten, often because they aren’t very popular, and their situation has no real impact on the meta or professional play. This is the case of this character, but who after 10 years of peace with no reduction in power finally saw his fortunes change.

4 nerfs in 1 month

Nerfing former champions is rare, but there are exceptions. This is the case for Teemo (yes, the announcement of nerfs to one of the most hated champions on Summoner’s Rift won’t break many hearts). While he didn’t get any power drops in the last 10 years, he did get 4 nerfs in the span of a month.. In patches 14.1 and 14.2, the most recent, he got a discount on all his spells, a situation that some don’t understand, as u/24rs explained at length on Reddit.

The last time teams were hated was when Velcoz was released in 2014.

– Maleficent (new item in Season 14: Editor’s Note) was making his mushrooms too aggressive, so his Noxious Trap (R) was nerfed twice, which seems fair, even if not all team builds use Maleficent.

– Nerfing his Q damage is a bit odd when the game has so much more burst than that, especially since Xerath’s Q is a bit of a jinx shot at the moment, but why not.

– However, the effect of his E (Auto-Attacks) actually meant that all of his damage capabilities were exhausted within a month after 10 years of very small buff adjustments and 10 years of generally peaceful status.

His mushroom build, his burst build, and now his auto-attack build are all gone, what was the thought process?

If the goal was to reduce the impact of items to let champions’ kits shine, why is Yordle gutting all of its abilities? There is no solution other than to use items of the same category as the team.

On top of that, a lot of top laners got buffs with these nerfs.

Ask yourself the question: if a champion is good for 10 years, and within a month, with a new item in his build that only affects his R, all of his abilities are affected, does it feel like there is A structured game plan?

It really seems like the developers know that Maleficent/teams are inherently toxic and aren’t reducing it to nothing in the hopes that players won’t pick up the teams again.

I know many of you hate teams, but if his weakness is his R (or evil), can we properly address that and not continue to eliminate champions in this unhealthy way?

In the end, whether we like the teams or not, we can’t say it’s wrong. It seems incomprehensible that champions have been so targeted by nerfs. Teams are located in the soft underbelly of Champion Pick (63rd in terms of pick rate) and have a win rate of no more than 50% (49.6%), the win rate has been greatly affected by patch 14.2 as it has dropped by 2.9%.

So, is the developers’ plan really valid? Probably not, because in truth It seems like it’s a bad thing on Teemo that’s causing the problem, and not the champion himself. But changing the item will affect other champions, so finding a balance between the two seems difficult.

A little relief for the bantam scout

The good news is that champions should not undergo any changes with patch 14.3. His winrate is below 50%, so developers don’t need to nerf him right away. The problem is that Maleficent should receive a buff. Then new problems can arise, causing even more anxiety to the balanced team.
