A 43-year-old bonobo monkey defeats the final boss of the Minecraft game
43-year-old bonobo monkey Kanji managed to complete the very popular video game Minecraft on January 13. If six months of training were enough for him to defeat the enormous ender dragon, his learning was documented by two YouTube videos from ChrisDaCow, as part of the Ape Initiative’s research.
For every successful action Bonobo made, he received a treat, which motivated him significantly, and allowed him to develop impressive skills throughout the game. Quickly and using touch controls, healing himself, attacking or breaking cubes has become second nature to Kanji.
An interesting methodological process
As he became more familiar with the game, Kanji performed more and more actions alone. Thanks to its touch screen, he advanced his character and controlled the camera with greater ease. With buttons programmed to automate actions, the bonobo has also managed to do the “MLG water bucket” which involves placing a bucket of water under its feet at the last moment.
Six months to kill the “final boss”.
Kanji’s feat was achieved thanks to his six months of training with the Chrisdacro teams. Although he suffered many failures, he survived and defeated the final dragon of the game and impressed many players online.
