The Spanish press is waiting for Mbappé and reacts until the end of the series
After revelations about Kylian Mbappe’s impending departure from Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the season, the Spanish press called it “the end of a soap opera”. She is now waiting for the Frenchman, especially in the Madrid dailies, where she is apparently on the front page.
The Madrid media has been waiting for this for ages. Marca even joked about the topic, stating that their first headline on Kylian Mbappé was almost seven years ago. “He’s leaving” and “He’s coming”, daily headlines today, to announce both the Frenchman’s departure from Paris Saint-Germain and his imminent arrival at Real Madrid. “The longest transfer in the world”, we read in a newspaper column.
In its pages, Marca details the terms of Mbappé’s arrival at the Madrid club. “Real was waiting for Mbappe to make his first move. He did. The French star had to publicly state his desire to leave PSG so that Florentino Perez and his team could work and sign the Real Madrid player.”
The daily asserts that if the Spanish club once offered Mbappé 50 million euros per season in 2022, the offer will now be only half that. “The club wishes to maintain the natural order of its locker room and not jeopardize the financial stability of the club.”
“Galacticos’ PSG will be ancient history from June”
AS, the country’s other main Madrid newspaper, also reports heavily on the Mbappé case. “Farewell Paris” crosses the daily front page. “It’s the end of one of the soap operas of the last five years of this century, maybe even of football history. Kylian Mbappé leaves PSG.” It is about the “Revolution in France” and the end of an era in Paris. “The Galacticos’ PSG will be ancient history from June and Qatar are preparing to launch a new project without the big stars,” writes AS.
Madrid Daily also looks ahead to what this transfer means for Real Madrid. “This will take the club to another dimension. First, in terms of brand awareness. Second, in terms of sport. The Frenchman is, without a doubt, the best player on the planet.” In the remaining pages, we also get an interview with Daniel Riolo, who gives his analysis.
El Mundo talks about Mbappé’s instability, minimal treatment in Catalonia
At El Mundo and El Pais, Kylian Mbappé logically opens the sports page but does not appear on the front page. “Mbappé takes the first step”, headlines El Mundo before starting the article as follows: “This time, it seems. With all the necessary precautions for the instability of character, and mixed resentment, but resentment when the same, which still The Frenchman’s arrival is taking shape, with some offices in Real Madrid staying.”
In Catalonia, apparently, the topic is a little less highlighted. Kylian Mbappé appears on the front page of Mundo Deportivo, but in the background. The main topic is the search for a coach for Barca, with information surrounding Hansi Flick and Thomas Tuchel. Within the newspaper, only one page concerns information about Mbappé’s future departure from PSG, only to relay the previous day’s information.
Similar treatment in Sport, another major Catalan daily, which likes to put Alexia Putelas on the front page. “Mbappé informs PSG that he is leaving,” the newspaper exclusively writes about the Frenchman. Then there is the question of “the biggest soap opera set by a player in recent years”. Apparently, all of Spain is probably not happy to know that Mbappé is so close to Real Madrid.
