Disney partners with Epic Games to create the ultimate Metaverse in Fortnite
Disney is teaming up with Epic Games, the publisher that created Fortnite, one of the most played games in the world with over 400 million players in 2021. A connection and investment that can change a lot of things in the virtual world.
A press release announced last Thursday that the two organizations plan to create a new world of entertainment in the universe. Fortnite.
Fortnite: More than just a toy for 8-17 year olds
Usually when we hear about Fortnite, it’s not always in a positive light. The game has long served as a cliché to mock the interests of youth. However, it ticks many boxes and offers addictive gameplay, well-designed game mechanics and a unique experience, despite being free! This is not enough to make it everyone’s favorite game because Fortnite is so popular that it is hated by gamers for its success, but also for its toxic communities.
Despite everything, the game has managed to establish itself in the video game and virtual world market in a few years since 2017. To differentiate itself, Epic Games was able to offer virtual concerts by celebrities such as Aya Nakamura, Ariana Grande, and Lil Nas X. As well as new collaborations like LEGO Fortnite which was a hit late last year.
The promise of an exciting Metaverse platform
In a press release, the Walt Disney Company announced that it has invested 1.5 billion euros in Epic Games’ capital and proposes to integrate some of its famous licenses such as Marvel, Avatar, Pixar and Star Wars into Fortnite. The aim is to offer fans of the brand “ To interact with Disney in a way that best suits them “, according to Disney Experience president Josh D’Maro.
This is Disney’s biggest entry into the gaming world following a license like Kingdom Hearts, or Star Wars Jedi: Survivors. But this is not the first collaboration between the two companies, as Epic Games is at the core of the Unreal Engine used in the animation and production of video games, most notably by Disney for their theme parks.
With this collaboration, we can expect to explore Disney theme parks virtually and in much better quality than what already exists. Knowing that a video announcement of their engagement would allow players to “ Play, create, admire and of course, buy ” Because if Fortnite remains free to play and therefore free, like Fortnite in Disneyland Paris, we are strongly encouraged to buy and both brands are experts in this field.
