SOUTH FLORIDA – Tornado watch issued for Telemundo Miami (51).
Large parts of South Florida experienced severe storms with high winds on Sunday, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a tornado warning for Miami-Dade County, which was in effect until 11:30 a.m.
After the line of storms quickly passed over our area, SMN also canceled the tornado watch that had been issued for Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties until 2 p.m.
Areas affected by the storms include Kendall, Sunset, The Crossings, Kendall Lakes, West Kendall, the intersection of Chrome and Kendall Drive, The Hammocks, Tamiami, University Park, Kendall West and Westwood Lakes. as well as parts of Westchester, Miami and Hialeah.
As of 11:45, FPL reported that 13,896 people were without power service in Miami-Dade County.
Bad weather is associated with the arrival of a cold front, which also brings with it the possibility of severe thunderstorms.
Conditions will improve rapidly in the afternoon with only light winds.
Another round of rain and storms is also expected on Monday, although it doesn’t look to be as intense as Sunday.
