With this historical record the Tesla Model Y outperforms the thermal car

The figures for 2023 are based on vehicles (not just electric) sold in Europe last year. And for the first time, it is an electric car on the most European step! The Tesla Model Y thus performs better than any thermal car.

We had seen it grow as big as a house for many months. But we still have to wait for confirmation. which just fell. And it’s historic: for the first time in history, an electric car is the best-seller in Europe during a single year! In this case, we are talking about 2023 which has just ended.

We are always used to crowning thermal cars. And it’s the Volkswagen Golf that has had a monopoly on first place for more than 10 years. She found it difficult to depose. Until a small French city car replaces it in 2022, the Peugeot 208 passes in front of it. Ending 14 years of German compact rule. But we are talking about thermal cars here!

And now everything has changed again with the historic arrival in 2023 of the first electric car to top sales, all engines combined. Yes, it’s a Tesla Model Y!

Ahead of the Tesla Model y Dacia Sandero

Before delving into the figures and who the American SUV was, let’s go back in time. In 2021. While the Model Y was not yet available here. However, Elon Musk announced the color: his new model will be the best-seller in the world. In 2022. Also 2023.

Well, while waiting to get sales figures for the whole world, we can say that the vision of Tesla’s eccentric boss was not an illusion. And being the first in Europe is already an achievement! Knowing that in 2023, it was actually the Model Y that sold the most in the world in the first quarter…

It is therefore historic that the Tesla Model Y is the best-selling model in Europe throughout the year, as it is an electric vehicle. A sign that times are changing. But it’s also groundbreaking in more ways than one: by virtue of its size, far more impressive than the best-selling car up to that point. By its origin, American and not European. Its status is premium. Its price, around 40,000 euros in Europe…

So we’re talking about 254,922 Tesla Model Ys sold in the European market in 2023, according to figures from Automotive News Europe. It is followed by the thermal car, the Dacia Sandero, with 235,893 examples.

Good for 2024 too!

One thing is for sure, Elon Musk is doing absolutely everything in his power to ensure that Elon Musk stays on top of sales in the year 2024, which is just beginning. This is evidenced by the drop in prices of the model in all markets, and especially in Europe, a few days ago. Which translates to a reduction of 3,000 euros in France and a call price of 37,990 euros (bonus deducted)…

France, which should continue to see more and more Model Ys on its roads thanks to the environmental score-based bonus it is still awarded. Unlike the Model 3, which is manufactured in China, there will be very few sales here this year.

And then we also expect in 2024, a potential sales boom for the Model Y with the restyling following the sedan in 2023. A revamped body, updated equipment and better performance, all at a price hardly more expensive, can make this happen. Give it an extra boost and drive the point home a little further in 2024!
