The Fresno Mission indicated that the arrival was unexpected, but they decided to give them the help they needed.
The organization opened its doors to 19 migrants; Men, women and children, all Venezuelan refugees, and more buses are expected to arrive, according to the statement.
After news of the situation became known, Matt Dildeen, the organization’s executive director, confirmed that he had received negative comments and messages of criticism about the arrival.
“Emails started coming in with questions: Why do you help undocumented immigrants?” Others said they would cancel their help,” he added.
Through a video published on social networks, Dildin recalled what the main mission of the organization is.
“This is not a political issue, this is a matter of compassion and basic human dignity,” Dildin said.
He added that the Fresno Mission is an organization deeply rooted in Christian values and has a duty to respond to the needs of those who find themselves in desperate situations.
“We are committed to providing shelter and assistance to these people, just as Jesus would have done,” he said.
