Real Sociedad qualified for Copa del Rey semi-finals after victory over Celta Vigo
PSG’s future opponents in the Round of 16 of the Champions League, Real Sociedad, are doing well. This Tuesday evening, the Basque team qualified for the semifinals of the Copa del Rey by winning on the pitch of Celta Vigo (2-1). Imanol Alguacil’s men have lost just one of their last sixteen matches in all competitions.
Captain Mikel Oyarzabal opened the scoring after 75 seconds, receiving a cross from Mikel Marino (second). Sheraldo Becker, who arrived from Union Berlin this winter, was responsible for making the break on the counter just after the hour mark (66th). The Surinamese were perfectly launched by Brace Mendez himself three days earlier with the winning goal on the same pitch in La Liga (1-0).
And just like three days ago, the Basques lost another left flank. On Saturday, it was Ahen Munoz who was the Crusader. This Tuesday, it was Kieran Tierney who grabbed his thigh on a clearance at the end of the first period and immediately requested a change. In recent hours, the Spanish press has been discussing the possible recruitment of Javi Galan (Atlético de Madrid).
Celta reduced the gap in extra time through Luca de la Torre (90th +1) but could not stop Real from reaching the last four. Where the Basques will face the winner of Mallorca – Girona in a round-trip encounter this Wednesday.
