The idea that Nintendo Switch 2 was being prepared behind the scenes for the end of 2024 has spread among gamers. Released in 2017, the Nintendo Switch is already “old” to give way to its younger sister. Here is what its performance could be due to various rumors circulating the web.

Nintendo Switch 2 as powerful as PlayStation 4?

Already 7 years since the release of the Nintendo Switch in March 2017! We’re getting old, and so are Nintendo consoles. But in recent months, we’ve been hearing more and more talk about the successor to the Nintendo Switch, the one we call the very Switch: “Switch 2”.

Although the name is yet to be confirmed by the Japanese firm, some rumors indicate that development kits for the new console are already in some of the company’s studios. “Dev Kits” are consoles designed for game developers, with very different features from the final console.

Obviously, developers are bound by professional confidentiality and under no circumstances should the technical specifications of the development machines be disclosed. In theory it is very simple, in practice it is a different story.

Rumors hit the web from the first deliveries of Nintendo development kits, revealing the exact specifications of the company’s future machine.

Here’s what we can imagine about the console’s power thanks to the various rumors we’ve found on niche forums.

The Nintendo Switch is known among gamers for being the least powerful console on the current market. Indeed, Nintendo does not want to compete with PS5 or Xbox Series X, but above all it wants to offer very different experiences. This is why there are very few graphically advanced games on the Nintendo Switch. On the other hand, Nintendo’s latest console allowed players to discover two new episodes of The Legend of Zelda as well as two exclusive Mario games. Suffice it to say that happy Nintendo Switch owners have been spoiled in this regard.

Nintendo will then bet on a more powerful console using the principle of the Nintendo Switch, i.e. the hybrid side: half-portable, half-home console.

Then we should find the Switch’s Tegra X1, 8 GB of RAM instead of 4 GB, NVIDIA T239 processor, but a big surprise may await us.

Indeed, even if these technical specifications do not put a sparkle in your eyes, being quite insignificant for a machine introduced in 2024, Nintendo can rely on video upscaling to offer more beautiful and fluid games, especially on television.

The console should be able to run games at up to 120 FPS, while retaining the basic screen OLED panel. So suffice it to say that Nintendo should pull out all the stops in terms of upscaling to offer more pleasant and, above all, more fluid renderings.

The concept will be similar to the Nintendo Switch as it was very popular among gamers. Our Switch games should potentially be compatible with all Nintendo Switch 2s. In addition, there is a rumor circulating around Nintendo consoles during Gamescom 2023, which will run an improved version of Zelda’s Tiers of the Kingdom.

The price and release date of this new Nintendo console

It has been 7 years since the release of the Nintendo Switch. Hence the Japanese company wants to completely renew with gaming consoles soon.

According to Taiwan Economic Daily, the Nintendo Switch 2 – or whatever it’s called – should appear in the second half of 2024. So we can easily imagine a release date in October/November, before Christmas.

The Nintendo Switch stands out from other game consoles for its more affordable price than current machines.. Sold for €359 with a game upon release, the OLED version followed suit to end up at around the same price a few years later.

But for now, the price should be a bit higher, lacking more powerful components and therefore more expensive to manufacture. Rumors suggest a price of around €400 at the time of publication, but nothing is confirmed at this level.
