Madam Web star Dakota Johnson turns to Elizabeth Olsen for advice…thinking she’s joining the MCU?
Comic book fans are skeptical that Sony Pictures allows the artists they hire to think they’re joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We’ve seen artists from Sony’s so-called Universe of Marvel characters tagging Marvel Studios in social posts so there’s definitely confusion.
Madam Webb Star Dakota Johnson was one of them and, in an interview with L’Official USA, she turned to MCU veteran Elizabeth Olsen for advice. She plays Scarlet Witch for Marvel Studios, appearing recently Wandavision And Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
“When I got the role of Madam Webb, I ran into Lizzie Olsen in the hotel lobby and talked to her for a while, and that helped,” Johnson explains. “She said she had a good time and…seemed very relaxed about it, so that was comforting.”
What Johnson may have missed is the fact that Olsen had a “great time” working with Marvel Studios, not Sony Pictures. In fact, the Madam Webb Lead is not the only one who has made this mistake.
Doing the rounds to promote Morbius In 2022, Matt Smith recalled turning to him doctor who Co-starring Karen Gillan (who plays Nebula Guardians of the Galaxy franchise) and sought her advice on joining the Marvel Universe.
“I called Karen and said, ‘How are you? Did you have a good time?’ And she’s like, ‘Yeah, go for it, do it’. So I did,” He said at the time. “Good old Caz. I mean, she’s a seasoned pro, she’s made about 9 of them.” Again, that’s nine MCU movies, not nine set in SUMC!
So far, that includes slate Poison, Venom: Let There Be Massacre, MorbiusAnd next Madam Webb. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse And Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Although Sony Pictures Animation, falls under the Sony Pictures banner.
